I am a licensed Social worker with tutoring experience in and out of college. I have the most experience in tutoring Algebra and other math. I have a student now that I am helping with AP English who has dyslexia. I enjoy watching her grammar skills increase and her overall understanding of the concepts develop. I am great with any age individual and have the patience it takes to work with any kind of student (special needs included).
I believe that people learn the best when they understand the meaning and logic behind what they are learning. When a student can see a pattern develop they develop an understanding that can be universally applied to many different areas of study and life circumstances. Learning is different then memorizing. My comments on tutoring Psychology : My background in psychology is extensive. I have a minor in the subject and have taken many more hours in order to be certified as a teacher. I like teaching psychology and find it pfascinating.

Multiple ways of presenting material; musically, visually, building models, finding answers by testing a hypothesis; experimenting, measuring, observing, seeing, touching.
Teaching middle school and high school science from 1983 to 2004, including every science subject listed in the TutorSelect list. I have worked as an educational consultant for national science laboratories, helping them train their scientists to work better in the school classrooms where they volunteer. I have worked for museums and for outdoor education programs, but have found the most satisfaction as a classroom teacher with all kinds of students. I have worked teaching teachers, but they were very difficult students.

I have found I am most successful by not being overly aggressive. I never confront my students with fast-paced drills or time limits. I like to work with students in a cooperative way, one that allows them to discover the best means of figuring out solutions by themselves. My intention is to build confidence and develop problem-solving abilities. Students are generally so pressured they are not able to demonstrate their potential. Prior to entering graduate and later medical school, I tutored a variety of subjects in the area of mathematics and science. As a PhD candidate, one of the requirements was to assist in teaching the physiology labs, and as an advanced candidate, was given the opportunity to give lectures in physiology to medical and nursing students.
