I then attended an amazing middle school, where I became Student Body President, captain of the cheerleading team, and All A's student for all 3 years. There, I received the highest achievement a student can receive for all 3 years. In high school, I played varsity volleyball for 3 years, was captain for 2, and received MANY honors and awards for my talent in the sport. Teaching to me is about how to engage the student. The material that is prepared for daily lessons can be nothing more than just words to some students. The instructor must become one with the student and understand them on their level. Once you can see eye to eye with your students, then you can begin to help them learn and grow. I learn right along with my students, gaining interpersonal skills from every student. The student's feedback and honesty helps me as an instructor meet the needs of future students. Students are the backbone of the future and their strength comes from how you teach them to see themselves in the world making a difference. I believe each student can learn and it’s my responsibility to find how each one learns best. So much of it is about instilling confidence in the student that he or she is intelligent and capable of mastering the subject. I have been very successful at this and have often had short tutoring assignments: once we discover what is keeping a student from grasping the subject, fixing it is easy and then the student can proceed on their own with or without the help of a parent. The younger the student, the more I appreciate having the parent involved in what I am doing, and the results we are achieving, so they can actively participate with their child, especially once I am no longer needed.
