I started my college education in a community college, where i met many struggling students trying to improve their career opportunities. As a peer tutor at that school and in the jobs i have held since, I have developed a appreciation for the satisfaction that comes from assisting people with their coursework. I have an AAS and BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology, a minor in physics and two years of experience as a formal tutor. I have tutored students in mathematics and the sciences as well as English and composition skills. Most of the struggling students i have encountered seem to have a low confidence in themselves that interferes with their studies. I believe this is due to the manner in which students are tested; in order to fully understand a concept, the student has to be able to explain the concept and its application in his/her own words. By starting from

Since graduating with my Chemistry degree in 1997, I have volunteered off and on within the classroom, mentoring and tutoring children of all ages. I have several younger siblings and children of my own, so I have taken the many opportunities to go in and out of the classroom as a classroom parent, after school program teacher, guest speaker, and mentor and judge for the Future City competition (an annual engineering competition for middle school children).
My industry is nuclear. I have taken many opportunities to speak with students about considering the nuclear field and sharing my own experiences in the industry. My teaching style is adaptive. I believe everyone has the capacity to learn. The approach to learning is what makes the difference. Being a mother, I love children and am very patient. I also know that kids have their own distinct personalities and I address each child as

I am a high energy type teacher. I like to do creative things to motivate my students and make them realize that learning math can be fun. Since I have tutored for many years I have a lot of patience and understanding for students that have difficulty understanding the material. I believe that anyone has the potential to learn, they just need time and a different approach to master the material. Everyone has different learning styles, it is just a matter of finding what works best for them. I have taught mathematics for over 23 years. In Ohio I taught at a middle school for 2 years and then at an all boys high school for 17 years. At the high school I was the math tutor and worked with the students in all areas of mathematics from prealgebra to calculus. Curently I am teaching at Wallace Rosehill High School in North Carolina. I have been there for five years and teach algebra an

Amy M - Leland, NC 28451 (42 mi) - Statistics Tutor - $37.00/hr.
I have completed all courses for my Associates Degree and was a trainer at my previous position. When in high school, I was a college preparatory student and graduated with a high school Diploma as well as 12 Advanced Placement courses and completed my International Baccalaureate diploma. I love teaching all grades and levels. The most important aspect of teaching is to know your student. Each individual learns in different ways, some are tactile learners, some are visual, and some are auditory learners. Incorporating all aspects into my teaching style assists the retention of the material. It also has to be relatable to the student, so we have to use relevant examples that they understand. All children can learn any subject if you can spark their interest. There is no better feeling than seeing the light turn on and the sense of accomplishment in a child's eyes.

As a teacher, I work hard to enable my students to be successful, and I expect them to work just as hard. I enjoy working with my students, and particulary enjoy tutoring as it allows me to really get to know my students and tailor instruction to meet their needs. Most problems can be solved in a variety of ways, and if one approach doesn't work with a student, then I show the student another way. I am patient and a good listener. I am a licensed high school math teacher with eight years of public high school teaching experience. I have taught algebra I, algebra II, geometry, AP calculus AB, and seventh grade math. I am currently teaching in a private school and have extensive tutoring experience.

I thoroughly enjoy and delight in interacting with students as a tutor, providing individual attention for students who desire to excel in their studies. I want every individual I work with to benefit from what I can share with them. I am well aware that every student has a different learning ability, and each individual will retain information to a different degree. Throughout my years as a tutor, I have worked to create and apply the learning style that works best for each student so that we, as a team, can work together to achieve their potential. I have a Bachelors of Science degree in biology with a pre-medicine and chemistry concentration. I am currently a personal tutor with elementary through college students, including ADD/ADHD and learning disabled students, providing one-on-one individualized instruction for over 10 years. My wide variety of tutoring experience includes elemen

In mathematics, I was taught early on that in order to prove something you need three things:
1. facts that are obvious/self-evident
2. relate them in a logical way
3. frame these facts and their relationships inside of a theory
Engineering is just applied mathematics. I believe that anyone can do it, at their level; the key for an educator is to have sufficient people skills to diagnose the problem areas a given student might have and then address those in the context of solving a given problem. During my time at NC State, I worked at the mathematics laboratory for two years. In that short amount of time, I learned as much as I taught. The experience of communicating technical information in a way that is accessible requires a set of skills that, in my humble opinion, will always be in demand.
