I believe that children are born smart. Some of them have special learning challenges and some have been taught to believe that they are not smart. By treating children as though they are intelligent and providing encouragement and learning opportunities, I have seen children grow and progress in almost astonishing ways. The sparkle in a child's eyes when they finally "get it" is the best paycheck.
After finishing my Masters Degree in Education I taught one year in a private school then opened my own business tutoring primarily homeschool students during the school year. The students I have worked with are primarily ages 11-18, but my experience with my own children includes the primary grades. By day I work as a process engineer in a manufacturing facility. I love my job and the unique problems I get to solve every day. I also love teaching and have previously worked at tutoring centers tutoring high school students in math, science and ACT test prep. I love math and science and I love sharing them with students.

I believe the most important trait a teacher can have is enthusiasm as it can be contagious and get students to completely engage a subject.
