More About This Tutor...

I learned very early in my teaching career that the most important element to learning was infecting my pupils with joy of learning and the power of that knowledge - which is my primary teaching style. I also learned that hard work is often the difference between success and failure. Students seeking additional instruction by way of a tutor are properly motivated and may only need a bit more individual attention to succeed. I believe that I can make a difference to these students.
I am a life-long learner, both academically and professionally with a diverse professional experience. I have an MS degree in Public Health and a BA in Biology. I have professional experience as a cell biology lab technician, sales representative, medical science liaison, product manager, and as an adjunct faculty member at a local community college where I taught biology, microbiology, botany, and hu ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After finishing my Masters Degree in Education I taught one year in a private school then opened my own business tutoring primarily homeschool students during the school year. The students I have worked with are primarily ages 11-18, but my experience with my own children includes the primary grades. I have tutored most subjects including reading, writing, science, history and math (through algebra).
I believe that children are born smart. Some of them have special learning challenges and some have been taught to believe that they are not smart. By treating children as though they are intelligent and providing encouragement and learning opportunities, I have seen children grow and progress in almost astonishing ways. The sparkle in a child's eyes when they finally "get it" is the best paycheck.

More About This Tutor...

Because I have spent time at commercial tutoring centers, I know how to identify what type of learner your student is and what tools I can use to help them understand the abstract concepts math and science utilize. I also have the ability to tutor 2-3 students at a time in different subjects so feel free to ask about tutoring for multiple students in one session. I understand my role as a tutor is not just to get the student's homework done, it's to make sure your student knows the concepts and can perform when it's test time. They will not just improve their grade in the class we are tutoring in; they will build a foundation for success in future classes as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Hampshire College with a degree in Anthropology and Photography. These degrees required rigorous researching including an intensive semester of independent field study. My field study culminated in a 70 page thesis and correlated gallery exhibition. In addition, I have extensive experience composing and organizing shorter research papers on variety of subjects and laboratory reports. Over the past year I have worked as an environmental educator with the Park Service and Fish and Wildlife Service introducing mixed audiences to a variety of topics related to geological processes and natural and cultural history. Previously, I have worked with elementary aged students as a tutor with the America Reads program to promote literacy.
I believe the most important trait a teacher can have is enthusiasm as it can be contagious and get students to completely engage a sub ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a Weber State graduate, I majored in Zoology and minored in Chemistry. Even though science has always been a passion of mine, I am very knowledgeable in math. During my undergraduate studies, I have gained even more experience and improved on my grammatical skills. I had the opportunity to be an Anatomy lab instructor for three semesters. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to tutor my wife with her math. At first, this was a challenge. Math is a subject where one cannot only rely on memory. I found that it's best to be very patient and teach the processes of mathematic principles, rather than just assume the person whom you're tutoring knows these processes.
I never realized exactly why people go into teaching until I gained first hand experience. Teaching is one of the most rewarding things one can do as a profession. When I first started lab instructing, I immedia ... read more
