Highly motivated, educated, and interested teacher will help

I believe in individual learning styles and matching the teaching technique to the learning style. We all have strengths and weaknesses. It is important to learn how to capitalize on the strengths and build up the weakness.
I have been teaching for over 17 years. Being very versatile, I have taught English, Ancient History, Medieval History, Computers, Art, and preschool. I started out teaching preschool and loved it. Then I went to a private Christian school (teaching completely for volunteer pay). From there, I decided that I love to help people learn. I went back to school. Students still will recognize me and I know that I made a difference in their life. It is a great reward to know that at that point in their life, I was supposed to be there.

More About This Tutor...

In college I was a nanny to three middle school students for two years. While being their nanny I was also their tutor in all subjects but focused on math. I graduated from SJSU with a major in History and a minor in Mathematics. I substitute taught in January and February 2007 then was a long-term substitute from March until the end of May in a sixth grade math, science, and history combination class. For the past two years I have taught eighth grade Algebra. While teaching I have also tutored a sixth grade student in math.
I believe there are multiple learning styles. One of my goals as a teacher is to find each students' learning style and teach to fit their needs. I believe that practice makes perfect but also that learning needs to be fun. I set the bar high for my students and do my best to help motivate them to reach a high standard.

A Little Bit About Me...

My style of teaching is to first get the student to understand the basics that are needed as a foundation. For example, my friend was having trouble completing accounting homework and I soon realized that it was because he had not memorized the basic equations; i.e., "assets - liabilities = owner's equity," and "beginning inventory + purchases - ending inventory = cost of goods sold." Just about impossible to advance without the basics.
At Hartnell College I tutured math and economics. Recently I tutored a co-worker who was taking a college Accounting class and he appreciated it and said that I was very helpful. I have a Bachelor's degree in accounting and many years of accounting experience. I also have knowledge of computer programming with html, css, javascript, php, and mysql. I have advanced skills in Excel spreadsheets. I also know Word, Powerpoint, Access, and Quickboo ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduation in 1979, I decided to continue my studies and got units in MA Mathematics. Having earned 12 units, I worked as a college instructor, teaching subjects like college algebra, trigonometry, statistics and business mathematics from 1980 to 1990. When my children started growing up I tutored all my four (4) kids from their kinder level to their collegiate level. From elementary mathematics to simple college statistics, algebra and other related math subjects.
As a teacher I work well with my students, giving them the basic ideas that they need to learn to appreciate mathematics. As a mother of four, I provided them the idea that mathematics is really an enjoyable subject. With much patience and compassion, I was able to impart to them that learning is fun. I give them lots of examples to solve, then I explain to them the step by step computation. In the end, I would ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style involves three major components, namely patience, preparation, and presentation. By being patient with students one can provide them with the opportunity to learn at their pace and to explore the areas which are of importance to them. By preparing for teaching sessions and having profound knowledge of the subject one can be ready to answer questions and explain the subject. By presenting the information in a clear and organized fashion, one can dispel mysteries and offer pathways to understanding.
During my career in the pharmaceutical industry, I conducted several training classes and often prepared all of the training materials and class content. A Little Bit About Me...

Through my different career experiences I have discovered that my heart is in working with children, and I believe that given the proper environment and support every child is capable of learning and growing. Having tutored and received tutoring myself during times in which I was struggling, I believe that having struggled myself, that I understand from a personal perspective what works best in helping a person succeed. I often develop a friendly personal relationship with whom ever I work with and believe a mutual respect is necessary for each person to succeed. I understand the importance of step by step learning, especially with math, that it is necessary and it is essential that none of those steps are missed or skipped over.

A Little Bit About Me...

In college, I was taught to organize topics in Math, Science and English, using outlines. This ensured that I studied all of the material presented in class. During my career, I use the same method to grasp difficult concepts. As a technical advisor, I shared my knowledge with clients, answering questions and solving problems. As a tutor, I help my students develop strong expertise. At my children's school, I have worked with kids aged 5 to 11 for several years. We work in groups, or individually. I helped my older daughter with her high school English and Math. Reading classic books is a passion of mine. I express a joy for reading to my students, and stress its importance.
My teaching style is hands on. I give hints and partial answers in an effort to encourage students to think through problems and attempt to solve them. If necessary, I separate an idea into simpler terms, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher for six years and a physical therapy aide for one, I believe I have very good teaching skills. Not only did I have to teach students music and math, subjects I know students are uncomfortable with, I had to teach and motivate patients to do exercises while they were in pain. I have had many years of experience tutoring and teaching students in Kindergarten through 12th grade computers, math, English and reading. I also have taught these same grades many guitar, percussion and voice lessons. I am classically trained in the voice area and I have a math minor.
I am able to teach children of all ages and also am able to tailor my teaching style to the age I am teaching. Through encouragement and pointing in the correct direction instead of just giving an answer, I believe that the student learns best. I have worked both at private and public middle schools. I've gained great respect for diversity in all it's wonderful forms. My experience has taught me that each child, not only deserves, but dreams of success. My belief that each child is "gift-brilliant" in some area, grows stronger the more experienced I become in my career as an educator and as a parent. Having taught for 8 years, and through my own personal journey, I firmly believe that it is not our children that have difficulties learning, it's us who have difficulties teaching; we need to develop strategies that meet each child's learning style. And when we master that, each child will thrive through our efforts.
My teaching style can best be described through the overall goals of the school I am currently working at: fostering self-esteem through respecting each child's diverse nature; cooperation and communication, s ... read more
