A Little Bit About Me...

I've been a special education teacher and held positions in resource and in self-contained rooms. I've taught students with learning problems in reading, math, and writing. I have also worked in the Lights on for Learning program and have been a home tutor for home bound students in the district.
I'm a strong believer in the Gardner's ideas of many different learning styles and types of intelligent. Some students are better audio, tactile, or visual learners. I feel it is the teacher's responsibility to find the best learning style for each student and build on that format through scaffolding. What has allowed me to progress to a higher level of education is that I understand what is expected in the educational system. I am successful in school because I am familiar with the manner in which subjects are taught. Through my experiences in tutoring and mentoring, I have learned different teaching techniques. I understand that not everyone learns the same way, so I try to explain the material in different manners, show visuals when applicable, and give numerous examples. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching Biology and Physical Science for the past 6 years at a very competitive private high school. I have a degree in Biology with an emphasis on Secondary Education. As well as teaching high school for the last 6 years, I have also taught at the local College for Kids summer program. At this program I was the instructor for invertebrate dissection. My favorite part of being a teacher is when I see a struggling student succeed.
