My teaching style is focused on student achievement. Many parents complain that their child does poorly on tests. This is often a result of inadequate teaching practices which fail to recognize individual learning differences in students. My goal in teaching is to individualize the learning process for each student, so that the student understands and retains knowledge and is able to explain what they learned. This process increases their test scores and confidence. Students often require that educational materials be modified or accommodated to meet their particular needs. I have lived in South Jersey all of my life. I received my degree in Accounting from Stockton and have spent most of my career in finance working my way up to Controller for several businesses. When I was laid off, I had always wanted to try teaching and I loved it. I love working with kids (I also coach baseball and football), I really get a kick out of passing my knowledge onto them and seeing their face when it sinks in.
Math to me is like a puzzle... if you can imagine the pieces in your mind, fitting them together in practice is so much easier. I am extremely patient and easy going, even in coaching, most kids gravitated to me because I could speak to them on their level. You have to explain it in a way that kids can understand. Positive feedback is very critical to let them know they are going down the right path.

I love to teach and help others in general. I always had difficulty when I was younger finding a tutor or some help in my studies that I could understand easily. As a manager and coach I have formally and informally trained employees within my unit and provided same to those interested outside my area. Many have said "you should have been a teacher" over the years but more lucrative pursuits were my focus. I have taken the time to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity to teach a financial literacy class to a prospective homeowner.
