Non-traditional Mathematics Instructor/Tutor for over 20 years! I started teaching Algebra I and II, Geometry I and II, at Fordham University Upward Bound Program to high school students. My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : Not a lot of people seem to care about what trigonometry actually means. First thing they have in mind is sine, cosine and tangent with theta tagged on them. Trigonometry comes from combination of Greek word "trigon" meaning triangle and "metron" meaning measure. Therefore, trigonometry is the measure of triangle regarding its sides, height, angle and areas. So where do other geometric figures come then? We still see sines, cosines and tangents, right? Well, every geometric figure at a minute level can be thought of as a triangle and thus those sines, cosines and tangents. Trigonometry deals with various identical relationships of sides and angles, henceforth.

Holding a Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics and Economics, I have knowledge of both Mathematics and its application to Economics as well as other real world situations. I have advanced experience on tutoring high school students and college students in courses like PreCalculus, Algebra, Trigonometry, Statistics, Combinatorics and Probability, Econometrics, Calculus I, Calculus II and Calculus III and MicroEconomics and MacroEconomics as well as International Economics. My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : While I have not taught a formal course in trigonometry, I have, in the course of tutoring many students, have developed the knowledge of how to present the subject to students and help them learn the various identities and derivations, along with the associated problem-solving techniques. I also teach students structured methods of studying and solving problems.

As a teacher and tutor, I focus on developing conceptual knowledge (rather than memorization), and structured study methods, problem-solving techniques, and test-taking skills,including post-test analyses of mistakes as a learning tool. I encourage the student to develop skills appropriate not only to the discipline, but to his or her own personal learning style. I like to use on-line interactive tutorials, especially with students who are highly visual or hands-on learners.
