When I first started college, I had no idea what to major in. I started taking creative writing and literature classes though, and found my niche in English. I enjoy writing, reading, proofreading, checking grammar and punctuation, and find myself reviewing billboards and magazines for errors. I've been able to put these skills to actual use as an instructor, tutor, and advisor for college students. I have taught Business Writing, Business Communication, and Keyboarding classes. I have also had a great deal of experience with public speaking and have played piano for more than 20 years. In the end though, it's a great joy to see a student "get it" and to help them realize their full potential.

At SCSU, I work as a writing consultant at the Writing Center on campus. With students, I help to make them better writers by helping answer questions, presenting questions, working through the brainstorming and paper-writing process, and helping with formatting. As well, I have helped to coordinate our second satellite location, which entails working with people on their schedules, managing conflicts of schedule, and serving as a head of the second location. I am also fluent in Spanish and feel comfortable tutoring high school and college levels.

A Little Bit About Me...

The best validation I have for my teaching style is to watch my students. They are well-rounded in their knowledge and confident in their performance. I believe in enabling my students, showing them skills that will help them become independent learners. I believe that every person has strengths. When I meet my students for the first time I find out what those strengths are, and we start from there. My teaching approach is very much centered on the person I am teaching, and starting from his/her level of understanding, building confidence at each step along the way.
