I seek a student-centered classroom with a balance of authority and trustworthiness in the teacher so that the students respect me while at the same time feeling comfortable to share their ideas freely. I like for students to apply what they learn soon after the lesson. For example, if the subject was math, and we had been doing multiplication by flash cards, I might ask a question about the number of squares on a chess board. The idea is to firmly ground the students with their comfort zone as foundation and build upon their confidence with new ways of applying what they have learned so that they continue thinking outside of the rote lesson.

I attended Middle Tennessee State University from spring 1993-fall 1997, graduating in Dec. 1997 (B.S. degree). My major is art educ., my minor is secondary educ. My teaching license was in art educ./K-12. I was a member of The Gamma Beta Phi Society, the top 15% of my class. My gpa was 3.2 and I won two scholarships. I did my student teaching at the Lebanon High and at the Las Cassas Elementary Schools in fall 1997. I taught art at Mt. Juliet Elementary School, and taught private adult & children’s art classes at An Invitation to the Dance studio in Murfreesboro and at the Murfreesboro Art League. A Little Bit About Me...

Upon completing a BS in Education (Dual Certification), I decided to go on for a MDiv in Theology. I was ordained a minister, and thus spent 40+ years teaching, counseling,and preaching. I feel that I have dedicated my whole life to teaching others. I am committed not only to religion, but enjoy teaching basic living and social skills. My wife and I have raised 2 children and I helped in their elementary school classrooms, upon occasion. Today, I help with our 5 grandchildren and assist in their classrooms at times.
