My teaching style varies for each student, I try to tailor the work to how the student learns. I have been tutoring students of all ages since I was in high school. I began by tutoring my own peers in math and social studies. I would also tutor children from 1st grade on up in all subjects. Once in college, I tutored college students and younger in many fields, primarily mathematics courses. My specialty quickly became preparation for standardized tests as well as calculus because I have a unique ability to discover how each student learns and tailor the lessons to their needs. I can quickly find where the knowledge gaps exist for each student and fill in those gaps, in order to create a complete understanding of the topic, not just get them to memorize answers.

I am a junior at EKU working toward my Bachelor of Science. Education major with concentrations in Math and English. I have tutored my mom in basic college math as well as statistics, and her grades have definitely improved. I have learned to accommodate individual learning needs and I find the results very rewarding! I have learned many teaching styles. Each student learns differently, so there is a technique to apply to very learning style to accommodate individual needs.

I prefer one-on-one and I teach phonics approach to reading. I have taught Elementary Education in Ohio for 30 years. I taught GED for Garrard County for 10 years.I have always enjoyed working with students who do not understand their subjects, especially in Math. I will change the teaching to fit the student, if understanding is not happening. There is nothing like hearing a student say, "Now I understand, no one has ever shown me that learning can be fun!"

I have helped tutor many young students through the Pirate 21 program at my school (Berea Community) and can help with a wide range of academic and extra curricular needs, such as vocal training or a drama couch, as well as a core content tutor.
