My comments on tutoring SAT - Verbal : I have a BA in English and have tutored students for the verbal section of the SAT.

I prefer the Socratic method of asking/answering questions and discussion, but I am more than capable of diverting to a more lecture style of teaching if that is what works with the student. I tailor my teaching style to the strengths of the student.
I am a teacher with 7 years of classroom experience. My degree is in English, but I have taught in many other areas, including math, history, logic, and rhetoric. I have also tutored many students in grammar and writing, as well as Algebra I and II. I have been responsible for teaching books to students from American Literature (Hawthorne and Hemingway), European Literature (Dickens and Shakespeare), and World Literature (Gilgamesh and Homer).

My professional experience has been divided almost equally between teaching and administrative jobs. I have approximately ten years of teaching experience including employment as an adjunct instructor in a college-level Intensive English Program, a business education teacher in a large public high school and a junior-high English teacher at a small Christian school. I also homeschooled my two older children during their 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade years. I love to help children learn! It is so rewarding to see the reaction of a child who suddenly understands what he has been trying to learn. I try to help my students build confidence in themselves by helping them realize that they do have the ability to learn. I want every child to know he is loved and special.
I have always wanted to be a teacher. I began tutoring while I was still in high school. I earned my BS in Elementary Education in 1980. I have tutored students of all ages in different subjects. Most of my tutoring experience has been in math and reading. I have tutored students for all sections of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. A Little Bit About Me...

For many years, education has been one of my top priorities. I graduated salutatorian of my high school class and summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences. In high school, I tutored in a local elementary school, focusing on developing students' grammar and composition skills. While in college, I tutored chemistry, biology, physics and math courses up to graduate levels.
While tutoring at my college, I received specialized training on identifying and adjusting to different learning styles. I use this knowledge to tailor each session to the needs of the individual student. To track progress, I like to set both short-term and long-term goals and create manageable steps toward reaching these goals.
