I first and foremost believe that every child can learn, and I refuse to entertain any idea that says otherwise. I have found that a constructivist approach works best for most children, and I will always try this approach first. I try to make learning as hands on and relevant to the real world as possible.
I graduated from one of the top teaching schools in the nation (according to NCATE), and have a degree in elementary and special education. For many years, education has been one of my top priorities. I graduated salutatorian of my high school class and summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences. In high school, I tutored in a local elementary school, focusing on developing students' grammar and composition skills. After taking that class I realized that there is not just one way to teach or learn. I feel learning should be educational but fun. Repetition is also important. I currently teach at Calhoun Community College in Decatur, AL, ITT-Tech in Madison, AL, and Alabama A & M in Huntsville, AL. As you saw above, I have my Master's Degree in Math Education. I virtually have taught all my career life.
I love hands-on learning, however some math topics don't always lend themselves to that. Geometry has always been my favorite topic to teach. I tend to be the traditional teacher in showing students how to do problems, but I try to make them understand the background. I bring in real life problems when I can.
