One of the most important things a teacher of Language Arts can get a student to do is write. The more a student writes, the more in tune they become with their own style of expression. This not only aids in prose development, but also communication in all forms. I believe that all children are capable of understanding parts of speech and writing well. Each has his own learning style and I pride myself in being patient enough to discover what each student needs.
I taught middle school Language Arts for three years and thoroughly enjoyed watching my students excel. It thrilled me each time they grasped a new part of speech or attempted a new writing style. Being a student who had reading comprehension in early grades, I understand the shyness and frustration many students have with this difficulty. I respond to them with compassion, and often open up to them with a short story of my own experience. This way the student feels that I understand them and are more willing to learn the material I am trying to teach them.
