My comments on tutoring Special Education : I have assisted in the classroom and one on one on field trips.

Repetitive reading that helps recognition and pronunciation, sounding out and following along with single reading. getting the group excited about the material we use by offering props. Encouraging group participation and support. And of course stickers and promotion. My idea is to have 5 to 10 children of close to the same age reading and practicing together, asking questions about the subject and imaging themselves in the stories they are reading. I like to have a prop from the stories and offer it to the reader as the others track and read along.
I have 4 years of elementary library aide experience, a small one on one group to help them to excel in reading, pinpointing areas of weakness and strengths, helping young readers succeed in comprehensive reading. I worked closely with our reading experts to test and evaluate the readers to mainstream them back into the classrooms of re ... read more

During my time in college, I switched to become an educator as I discovered a passion to see the lives of children transformed. During my process of gaining my BS in Physical Education, I worked with many after school programs and taught both elementary and high school during my student teaching. Since college, I have taught and worked with children and youth around the world and currently volunteer in my local community, heading up an after school program that focuses on tutoring K-8th grade.
My greatest strength lies with my patience with children and flexibility to see what style of learning enables the child to best master the subject. I desire to lead children in finding the answer which will not only teach them the subject they are learning, but will enable them to reason and find the answers in other classes as well. It is simple to teach a child to memorize but to teach ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a heart for helping those who are in need of some extra help. Being a kid who struggled in school, I know what it's like to feel like to have low sell-esteem about school, having the feelings like I am not smart enough or good enough. As a future graduate at Fresno Pacific, I want to inspire kids to believe in themselves and to realize how gifted they actually are in the realm of school as well as what they have to offer to the world! For the past four years and three months I have worked as a 5th and 6th grade corrdinator at a Baptist church. Within that position, I put curriculum together as well as taught it.I also have spent some time assisting in the classroom at different schools.
I love kids. But more than that, I want to help kids who are in need of extra help and academic attention. I want to inspire as well encourage kids that they can do anyth ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

It seems to me that everyone can learn, in different ways and at different times. My approach is to have several options of which approach will be successful. Being a 1:1 teacher allows me the freedom and time to work with a student on a concept in a number of ways until the cognition sets in for him. Being enthusiastic and excited about the learning experience is contagious. I always think about the teachers who were indifferent compared to the ones who were animated. I am definitely animated, excited, and enthusiastic. I believe in combining visual, tactile, and aural whenever possible.
My experience in the teaching field has been primarily as a substitute on a daily basis. I have some long-term sub assignments in my resume as well. For the past 7 years I have limited my assignments to "Home/Hospital". I meet 5 hours per week with each student to provide complete instruction ... read more
