It seems to me that everyone can learn, in different ways and at different times. My approach is to have several options of which approach will be successful. Being a 1:1 teacher allows me the freedom and time to work with a student on a concept in a number of ways until the cognition sets in for him. Being enthusiastic and excited about the learning experience is contagious. I always think about the teachers who were indifferent compared to the ones who were animated. I am definitely animated, excited, and enthusiastic. I believe in combining visual, tactile, and aural whenever possible.

I have tutored children in reading last summer. It was one of the most gratifying things I have done. I worked with English as second language children ranging from ages 5 to 13. We used a lesson plan and several activities to help children in achieving their reading level goals. Also, in my undergrad experience, I excelled in writing and was very good with meeting deadlines.
I am a very down to earth person especially when it comes to kids. I always try to lighten up the mood and make learning things interesting and fun. I don't like to dismiss when I see a child having trouble in something. Every person has a different way of learning, I try to cater to each of their needs.

I love seeing students become excited about learning and becoming self-directed learners. Oftentimes, this means that the student takes the lead and I am there mainly to provide encouragement and structure. I try to provide a safe environment for learning. I believe there are no dumb questions and it is OK to make mistakes. I encourage students to brainstorm and think outside the box. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Communication and a Minor in Bible. I worked as a television and radio writer before earning two single subject credentials, one in English and one in Social Science. I am in my fifth year teaching at a unique charter high school. At my school, I work one on one with my students. I have become quite adept at creating rapport. Some students come to my school because they are highly gifted and want to graduate at an accelerated pace, while some of my students are years behind their grade level.
