A Little Bit About Me...

I have an Associate Degree in Mathematics from Porterville College. GPA of 3.8. Working towards Computer Engineering Major at California State University Bakersfield.I have tutor some of my fellow friends from my Calculus and Physics class. I want to be a tutor because it is my passion to teach students. I have taken Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, 2, 3, and 4, Physics 1 (Mechanics) and Physics 2 (Electromagnetism). My motto is one that I adapted from my high school, which is learn by doing. Most students aren't auditory learners, so if I simply spout off a bunch of facts or a mathematical process, then chances are they won't learn anything. After laying the foundation first, the best method of learning is for the student to actually do it themselves. This method of learning by doing has been effective and makes both teaching and learning fun and enjoyable.

My teaching style is perhaps not as Socratic as I would prefer. I first elucidate the principles being considered, and then use a practical means to illustrate and work with that principle. I like to have the student learn to derive what is being taught for themselves. That way the material will stay with them. Grounding the material being learned in some real-life experience makes knowledge meaningful and useful. That is what I endeavor to achieve.
While pursuing my Master's degree, I taught several sections on Civil Engineering principles. I also held office hours to tutor students in any other classwork where they were in need of assistance. Subjects ranges from physics to structural mechanics to hydrology to fluid mechanics.
