EXPERT TUTOR-MultiSubject; Home/ONLINE; +WRITING instructor

As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. My philosophy is that teaching is part knowledge, part communication, and part intuition. My intuition is necessary to understand where a student is getting stuck. I myself already understand the material; the challenge is to understand why a student does not. A variety of communicative teaching approaches is best. I have learned that different students respond to visual, auditory, or tactile methods. As always, continuous practice is extremely important. I also must ... read more

Teaching is not something I had initially aspired to but found I am a teacher and motivator by nature. I love the challenge of figuring what pieces, educational, each student is missing and helping them fill the their gaps to reach the next level and have things come together for them. I am very patient and try to make each session fun and interesting. My students and work associates have always enjoyed working with me and I like feeling/knowing that we all came away with something we didn't start with.
I have loved education and the process of learning since I was a child. Due to family issues, I dropped out at in the 9th grade but due to extensive reading most of my life on many subjects, and being gifted intellectually, thank God, I was enrolled in college at the age of 16. Due to my age, I lacked the discipline needed to succeed then so joined the Army at 18 and finished fi ... read more

It has been said that no one rises to low expectations. I believe that every child CAN learn, but that the process of teaching each child must vary depending on their learning style. Tutoring gives teachers the unique advantage of having students one on one, and allows us to truly discover what methods work best for those students.
I have been teaching and tutoring students of all ages for the last ten years. Having graduated with a BA in English, I have learned much about writing and the writing process that I believe could help students at all levels. Teaching should be an engaging process between both the teacher and student. When students are not only able to comprehend concepts, but to fully explain the concepts to others, true learning has occurred. My goal is to strive for true understanding and to ignite a passion for knowledge that will fuel the learners for years to come. I believe that all students can learn and education holds the key for future success in life. I facilitate the learning process through the use of differentiated instruction and Gardner’s multiple intelligences theory. I believe in the constructivist model of education and knowledge seeking which focuses on a facilitation of the learning process and allows students to construct their own learning.

I hold two bachelor's degrees from Mississippi State University. Both degrees were award under an International Business Major. I have taught German labs at the University level and can teach math whether geometry, trigonometry, algebra or pre-calculus.
My teaching style is facilitative. I ask a lot of questions and require my students to practice a minimum of 3 examples in front of me for every technique I explain. I have a fun style and enjoy watching the confidence grow in my pupils. The only child that ever lost interest in what I had to say was my own. :)

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style varies depending on the needs of my clients. Typically when I tutor more than one student at a time, I like to give frequent assessments (verbal or written). These "quizzes" aren't to punish the students; I use them to assess the needs of the students and the strengths and weaknesses of my teaching methods. The results allow me to adjust my style accordingly and focus on the areas in which the students need the most help.
My interest in mathematics is what originally fueled my desire to pursue an accounting degree. My work ethic and study skills are what have allowed me to earn both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in this field. My greatest strengths, however, are writing and composition, which is why I minored in English. I've tutored in English, math, and accounting (jr high, high school, & college-level) for the past 8 years.

A Little Bit About Me...

It's important to me to be part of the development in a child's education because once they are equipped with the skills I can teach them, they will find life in the real world easier. I believe that all children are capable of reaching the very highest level of competency, and that patience, understanding, and a meticulous hands-on explanation of material is the best way to teach a child new knowledge. I strive to provide that experience for all students and children I come into contact with.
As a student in a system that strives for educational excellence, with a special focus on English and composition, I am quite adept at teaching the skills required for writing both as an extra curricular activity, and as a discipline. I am an extremely patient person with an up-beat and enthusiastic personality. I strongly believe that children and really all people learn best by doing. You can only listen to someone explain what to do for so long before you lose interest. However, if you get your instructions, and then practice and apply those instructions you are able to stay more involved and alert.
I have been helping coach both Wrestling and Football for a large portion of my life. I have been involved in these sports for most of my life and have gained much experience in teaching over the past 9-10 years. I have recently graduated from Lawrence University, in Appleton, Wisconsin. Lawrence has been recognized as not only a top University in Wisconsin, but as a top private college in the nation.

I believe that teaching should be student-directed. Teachers should pique the curiosity of their students, and act as a resource for the acquisition of knowledge. Whenever possible, education should be hands-on, interactive and should always stimulate -- not bore -- the student.
