Musical is one of my top subjects! I am a master clarinet teacher.

I am a life-long teacher with a passion for working with students of all ages and abilities. I have been teaching clarinet for over 35 years and I have been teaching voice for five years. I have a bachelors in clarinet performance and I have studied voice for about 20 years. I have been an active jazz vocalist and clarinetist for over 30 years, performing for private functions, public events and everything in between. I have been an early childhood music educator for nearly 20 years and I have been teaching clarinet privately for 30 years as well as working with area band directors to assist then with their clarinet sections. Many of my private students go on to the All State or District Honor Band each year and 2 of my students are 1st chair clarinetists in youth orchestras. In the meantime, I am passionate about writing. I have been a writer for as long as I remember. I have t ... read more

My comments on tutoring Musical : Assists in a variety of musical areas

I believe that every student learns in their own unique way and at their own pace. I try to cater to that thought when teaching and encourage each student to become his or her own teacher. I think it is important to have a strong fundamental base, but music is more than notes and fingerings. The study of music can give one the power to look at life’s problems through a different lens and give a fresh perspective. Now that I am out of school I see more clearly that there is never an ending point to education. All of those years of studying are not just to pass a test or earn a degree. The purpose is to apply the lessons we learn and create the best life possible. To quote the great Willy Wonka, "we are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams."
I have taught private flute lessons for 10+ years from beginners to advanced and children to adults. I have also helped ... read more

I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish Education and a master's degree in Spanish Linguistics. I have two years of teaching experience at the high school level and I also have private tutoring experience.
My philosophy of education is student-centered where as an educator I serve as a facilitator or guide to the students personal growth. My focus is on exciting curiosity and motivating each student to take responsibility for his or her own learning process. I believe that meaningful learning is acquired through meaningful experiences, and therefore base my delivery of any foreign language curriculum on projects where learners are required to use the target language in staged real-life situations, in combination with listening and writing tests. Most of all I look to excite curisosity, once that has been achieved anything is possible.

I concentrate on each student's unique strengths (as opposed to weaknesses only) in order help students their own skills. Students must feel personally invested in their education, and I hope to be able to instill that in all students.
I'm a recent college graduate, soon entering into a Secondary English education program. I have extensive experience with academic writing and research during my undergraduate career. I have engaged in informal tutoring with my peers and have gained excellent writing skills in particular. I am particularly skilled with one-on-one communication and will be developing my teaching skills this coming year through the MAT program at Agnes Scott.

My years of experience have taught me that no two students are alike, especially in the 'tutoring' arena. I find the students strengths and create a positive learning environment that students actually enjoy! My students tell me they can't believe how fast the time goes; and look forward to the next lesson. My teaching style creates a feeling of well-being, confidence and self esteem that the student can 'build on' every week. My students leave me each week with a sense of accomplishment and a big smile. And I too, always look forward to the next lesson! My students succeed.
I was introduced to teaching as a guitar teacher and loved the field of education ever since. My first school experience was teaching 7th and 8th grade social studies in Queens, N.Y.in 1979. Finally, I found my niche in high school teaching various subjects such as Physical Science, Biology, Social Studies and ... read more

I have earned a Bachelor's Degree in English, with a Concentration in Creative Writing. As a student of Kentucky State University, I have explored my passion through words (i.e. Poetry). The Education that I've received from my University, allowed me to not only be successful in my field, but I have written over 100 Poems; which I'm in the process of getting them copyright, as well as published. I've tutored during my College years and most of my students have Graduated from College as well..that means more to me, than anything that I've experience because I've had a chance to motivate young people.
I love working with children because they have such a youthfulness that is full of life and ready to take on new challenges. A Little Bit About Me...

I funded my college education by working in several restaurants, where I became head trainer, within months, at every location. This parlayed into a professional career, training clients in Medical Software Applications, then designing, documenting and training applications. I currently consult for a customized computer training firm. I have been a licensed skydiving instructor for the past year - which definitely gives me immediate feedback on the effectiveness of my instruction! I've been mentoring people in Healthy Living for over 10 years. I've also worked in daycare and volunteered in after-school programs via the Salvation Army.
My style is flexible. I view all students as teachers, and therefore adapt my style continuously based on the student's experience, mood, personality, and goals. I strive to help students create "break-throughs" and "Aha!" moments. I believe that ... read more

During my undergraduate studies, I was selected the Departmental Tutor for French language by the Converse College Foreign Language Department. I also taught an entry-level French "drill" class for four years throughout my undergraduate experience. For three years after my graduation from college, I worked with at-risk youth as a wilderness instructor, and also a behavior modification specialist. During my work with at-risk youth, I also tutored such subjects as science, English, algebra, and foreign language.
Education is of utmost importance to me, and I believe that all children can learn, but some lack the study skills necessary to succeed in school. While in pursuit of my psychology major at Converse College, I attended various classes and seminars on learning styles. I feel that each child has its own potential, and if we as educators can empower students to feel as thoug ... read more

As a mentor and tutor I have a very hands on style of teaching. I challenge my students with the Upward Bound Program to think outside the norms of their traditional boundaries. I encourage a diverse mind frame and point of view for various subject. Most of all I want my students to see their studies in everyday life and understand how each subject applies on a person level. My teaching style as well is always open and my doors and time is always devoted to those I teach so that their understanding of a subject is not limited to only the work load I present, but questions they present to me as a teacher.
As a volunteer for St. Joseph's Home for Boys and Upward Bound, I have gained experience working with elementry middle and high school students on a personal level. I feel that my ability to reach the minds of youth is great because I speak to them not at them. I encourage them as ... read more

My teaching style with my own children is conversational, hands-on, and intuitive. I explore what most captures their attention, then weave in the lessons by using any available teaching aids, such as whiteboard drawings, to illustrate a point, literally.
My German parents spoke (so-called "high", or proper) German at home in NY/NJ, which came in handy after we moved overseas when I was 13. Repeating 7th grade, I learned to read and write German fluently, as well as master the local dialects and sundry colloquialisms without a lingering accent. Doing so allowed me mask my heritage, enroll in higher education, and learn a trade, culminating in a long and rewarding all-encompassing painting career abroad and in the eastern US, before settling in Texas to explore telecommunications. I widely regard the world as a large classroom/laboratory.
