I have taught private flute lessons for 10+ years from beginners to advanced and children to adults. I have also helped with marching and concert bands as a woodwind instructor in local schools. A Little Bit About Me...

My German parents spoke (so-called "high", or proper) German at home in NY/NJ, which came in handy after we moved overseas when I was 13. Repeating 7th grade, I learned to read and write German fluently, as well as master the local dialects and sundry colloquialisms without a lingering accent. Doing so allowed me mask my heritage, enroll in higher education, and learn a trade, culminating in a long and rewarding all-encompassing painting career abroad and in the eastern US, before settling in Texas to explore telecommunications. I widely regard the world as a large classroom/laboratory.
My teaching style with my own children is conversational, hands-on, and intuitive. I explore what most captures their attention, then weave in the lessons by using any available teaching aids, such as whiteboard drawings, to illustrate a point, literally.

I believe that science has a undeserved reputation for difficulty as a subject that is directly related to the inability of many teachers to "break it down". Science can seem to be like a foreign language to the uninitiated, but at its essence science is simply a way of thinking about the world and asking questions.
