My comments on tutoring Algebra : Having taught remedial arithmetic and prealgebra, I am very experienced at helping students make the transition to the greater abstractness of algebra and the greater difficulties of its story problems. I also teach study skills to lay the groundwork for future courses.

As a teacher and tutor, I focus on developing conceptual knowledge (rather than memorization), and structured study methods, problem-solving techniques, and test-taking skills,including post-test analyses of mistakes as a learning tool. I encourage the student to develop skills appropriate not only to the discipline, but to his or her own personal learning style. My comments on tutoring Algebra : As one of the most important areas of Mathematics that can be utilized in various other branches of Mathematics and real life applications like Optimization, Econometrics and so on, Algebra needs a very good foundation. Algebra 1 teaches students various concepts, tools and techniques to understand basic linear equations and inequalities, word problems and hence apply them later in more advanced courses. It is crucial that a student knows how to work with fractions; both constants and variables, indices, linear equations, quadratics, polynomials, rational expressions and radical expressions as well as basic probability and data analysis. These topics will prepare student for further advancement and understanding.
