My one and only passion has always been children. I strongly believe that every child should be respected and given an equal opportunity for success. In my experience, most children learn best through hands-on learning opportunities. Paper-and-pencil work has its place, however, I find it's important to provide other methods of teaching that cater to different types of learners such as kinesthetic and auditory learners. Having grown up with tremendous support, I have been able to pursue my career in art and art education with focus and determination. After receiving my Bachelor's degree in Painting from the University of Florida, I found my way into the Duval County Public School System. Though my position was surplussed only two years later, I was able the witness the great need for an art outlet in children. I love seeing people understand something once I explain it to them in a way that they can understand it. The easiest way I can explain my teaching style is to begin with the fact that I have worked for Disney for the past 6 years. I always have a smile on my face, and I believe that encouragement is the basis for all true learning. Students need someone to encourage them more than feed them facts. By guiding students through new concepts and learning with them instead of for them, each student is building his or her own learning tools that are more likely to last than the tools their tutor may provide for one homework assignment and never use again. I love putting all the pieces of the puzzle together - those "a-ha!" moments when students have breakthroughs in learning and understand have to be some of the most rewarding feelings in the world.
