Teaching style depends on the subject, the type of material, and the student’s level and ability. The goal is to inspire a student to learn the study skills necessary to excel on their own. In a tutoring situation there is usually the immediate need (to pass a test) and the long term need to be able to succeed on their own. I try to balance these two goals but the guidance of the parents is most critical. I use a combination of repetition, memorization, quizzing, recitation, and problem solving to challenge a student’s thought process so that they may grasp the material. I served four years of active duty in the United State Marine Corps. I have mentor and lead Marines on a daily basis to ensure their safety and well being. Teaching them their job skills and ensuring that each individual conduct themselves as a Marine. I have acquired electronics/electrical skills in troubleshooting and repairing. These skills required an extensive math knowledge. While serving in the Marine Corps, I worked on my BS in Electronic System Technology and completed this degree in December of 2009.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. I have very strong math skills, especially in Algebra, which is what my daughter is learning now. I excelled in grammar, art, health, and science as well. I was a teacher at a private school for a year after college before I started a family and began home schooling. My daughter is now in the 8th grade and tests at the college level in reading and high school levels at most other subjects.

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have been self employed for the last 6 years, I went back to school last year to add Science and Math for middle school to my certification. I passed the Praxis for both of those subjects spring of 2010. I was not able to get a full time teaching position this year. I went back to working for myself but would love to tutor. I have tutored for 3 years while I worked for Tryon Elementary school. I had great success with the students I worked with, in particular concerning math.
