I entered Virginia Tech as an honors math and physics student and graduated in three years with my BS in physics. At the moment I am trying to decide if I would like to go to grad school to continue on to something else, hopefully with math and physic as at least peripherally relevant. I have never taught a class and have tutored in only in a limited capacity. I however was apart of Virginia Tech's first Physics education class and program and found that I really actually enjoy teaching for teaching's sake. My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : Covering sine, cosine and tangent functions especially in problem-solving. Laws of sines and cosines. Use of radians and solving problems with TI-83 calculator. Cover periodic functions with varying amplitudes, and graphing all functions.

Eight years of tutoring math subjects for middle school and high school students. I have a keen interest in math and have always enjoyed helping students grasp the essence of a problem and its mathematical solution. I worked for many years in the corporate world, designing and programming mid-range and large scale computers.
I try to present each subject area as a sample problem and show EXACTLY how a solution is reached. Then I invite the student's participation with a view toward understanding the student's thinking. While accuracy in math is vital, understanding the steps involved is crucial.
