Teaching and working with young individuals over the course of my education has been particularly memorable. I have taught and tutored a wide array of students from Ivy league bound seniors to 4 year olds with autism. I am very open-minded and love helping others to achieve their goals and strive for excellence. As a graduate of the University of Virginia, I was very dedicated to learning as much as possible. I double majored in Government and Sociology, yet was able to take numerous courses in other areas as well. After earning my undergraduate degree, I decided to pursue graduate school immediately. I was offered Graduate Teaching Assistantships at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. This experience was wonderful because I not only could learn in my master's level courses, but also introduce undergraduate students into the field that I was passionate about.

I loved ancient history since middle school, but never in my dreams did I think I would learn Classical Greek and Latin. Luckily, I found that opportunity and learned both languages in three out of the four years of college. I decided during my fourth year that I wanted to become a teacher, but I needed experience, and I wanted to concentrate on Latin instead of Greek. I may not have taught a class yet, but graduate school is preparing me with education classes and more Latin translation, not to mention new experiences as a tutor for the Learning Assistance Center. I believe, in my role as an expert, that I must provide support and modeling for my students. I am expert in the simple,but effective explanation of Latin grammar and the creation of learning experiences that create learning. I have also used computer tech to supplement more traditional teaching method. I can save a willing student hours of frustration by properly orienting them and showing the steps that learning and applying Latin will require. I have been teaching Latin actively without interruption since 1978. I have been teaching in public high school for 19 years and have continued to tutor throughout this time. I have continued to produce students who consistently score 700+ on SAT II in Latin.My students are now studying Latin at all the major colleges in this state. I have repeatedly worked with students of college age and even adult learners.
