My BS in Secondary Education from Florida State University has equipped me with the knowledge and experience in educational psychology and teaching strategies through both course- and fieldwork in Leon County, where I assisted students in their reading, ESOL, and writing for grammar and composition. I began teaching at Shepard Academy. I taught Social Studies to middle and high school students. Shepard was a small private school specializing in meeting the needs of students who had a variety of learning challenges. Many were diagnosed with ADHD or ADD. After a three year leave during which I stayed home with my children, I began teaching at Tallavana Christian School. Again I taught middle and high school students, but I covered 6th grade math and reading in addition to history and geography. During my third year they needed someone to teach high school English, so I taught 10-12 grade literature and grammar, as well as semester courses in speech and drama, home economics, and creative writing.

I believe that while students may forget specifics of what they are learning, they will never forget how teachers make them feel. I also belive that the best teachers are the ones that make themselves less needed the longer they teach specific studdents. I want to empower the students I teach to be able to learn and excell on their own in the future.
