A Little Bit About Me...

My approach to tutoring in most cases is to help students find answers themselves through questioning and examples rather than by giving direct instruction, which I reserve for students who are struggling with course content rather than understanding. I believe that all students have the capacity to learn and that many undermine themselves by not having faith in their own abilities. The experience of mastering content and understanding can help a student not only with the subject matter at hand, but also with their future studies.
I have taught as a program director, a school volunteer, and a community college instructor. While the majority of my experience has been with high school students, I have also worked with elementary and middle school students, college undergraduates and medical students. I have also provided continuing education for high school and middle school scienc ... read more

I love to experience the thrill of success as a child begins to understand. I enjoy seeing their confusion transform into understanding. I believe children have brilliant minds that just need to be directed or focused in a way that incorporates their frame of reference. I have seen how children become excited with learning as they understand concepts and begin to apply them to practical situations. I believe children love to learn! Sometimes they just need to have some direction along the way. I find great satisfaction in helping a child build confidence with learning.
As "stay at home" mom of 6, I have used my two Bachelors' degrees for the education of my own children. I've taught them essential reading and writing skills, study habits, organization skills, science projects, practical application of principles, and a love of learning. I have also home schooled my children ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I work to explore and supplement the existing knowledge of each student. I do not give answers but rather provide direction and support. Quantitative problems require self-confidence,I help students develop poise.
I have earned dual undergraduate degrees, a BA in Mathematics and a BA in Economics, from Eastern Washington University. While attending EWU I worked as a econometrics tutor and teaching assistant. I have been admitted to a PhD program at Washington State University for this coming fall. Through tutoring at EWU, I have demonstrated an ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations. I have strong quantitative skills in mathematical, statistical and economic contexts.

Unfortunately, I am not able to document any particular periods of time as a tutor or teacher; however, with my experience in the medical imaging field, and with a strong background in physics & math, I believe I poscess a keen apptitude for technical subjects.
I believe I have an uncanny ability to break down & analyize any math problem to its simplist components, re-word it into an understandable form, and deliver several different solution options in order for the student to confidently answer - even when it presents itself in different ways.

A Little Bit About Me...

I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate. The courses were varied and included a wide array of math application, from supply and demand curves to interest rate calculations. My classmates gave me the nickname "Webster" because I was frequently asked to edit their papers and to tutor them in several different subjects. I love working with teenagers, and watching their faces change when they really GET a concept for the first time!
I believe students will rise to the level of expectations set for them. I am a bit of a comedian, and I use humor to allay frustration in learning situations. I believe in setting goals and charting a specific path for reaching them, while being flexible enough to alter the path along the way. Praise and positive reinforcement are powerful tools when teaching challenging material, and I use them frequently.

I feel it is my responsibility as a teacher to help the student realize their potential by engaging my student in the learning process. It is my belief that every student has the potential to learn their material. A major benefit from my experience as an education major is learning that students have different learning styles as well as different intelligences in their acquisition of their life's experiences. It is my responsibility to see that a student feels comfortable and safe in their learning environment. When a student finds that they have minimal distraction they are more focused on their lessons.
My original direction was networking until I realized the rewards of spending time with students in the classroom. Having raised two children, I volunteered several hundred hours at my son's school and found that I desired to be part the classroom experience. Changing my c ... read more
