Never stop pushing yourself to learn

I have taught a large array of children and adults, anywhere from a 2nd grader struggling with reading to adult Burmese refugees. I have the patience and flexibility to successfully work with anyone. I started tutoring when I was around the age of 13. I taught a young Korean girl English, where I would have to create my own lesson plans. While I attended Okemos high school, I partook in volunteering experiences that dealt with tutoring. For two years, I was placed at an elementary school where I would tutor 1st-5th graders biweekly with anything from basic math to practice with reading. I built strong connections with the children, which I could use to better their learning. At Michigan State University, I spent a semester tutoring at the Boys and Girls club of Lansing. I helped in any kind of homework the children had, and was flexible in helping the supervisor with any other needs that ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have helped out several of my friends and family members, with everything from studying to hands on projects. I am looking to expand this help to others, and I also believe it will be a rewarding experience for myself. I, myself, enjoy the learning experience a lot, and hope to help others also find a way to enjoy their learning experience.
I have many different teaching tactics depending on how someone prefers to learn. Some people are visual learners, and need the assistance of visual aids and presentations. Others like to learn about things by doing them. However someone enjoys learning, I believe is the best method.

More About This Tutor...

During my time in college, I studied both Fine Art Painting and Art Education. Getting my BFA in Painting allowed me to study many disciplines of art while refining my painting techniques. At the same time, I earned my degree in Art Education and have an Indiana Teacher's License to teach visual art to all grades. I gained a lot of experience teaching, including six weeks each teaching 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 8th grades, and a semester of student teaching high school students. I was able to teach everything from basic introduction to art to advanced ceramics.
Like a lot of people, I've found that once you get the chance to teach, nothing else is as fun or fulfilling. My personality easy-going, mellow, positive, and tactful. I have found one of my greatest strengths in teaching is offering helpful and proactive feedback that encourages what is done right first, then suggests improv ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a student I was most drawn to the ideas of Piaget and Gardner. Their teaching philosophies made the most sense to me when it came to teaching. Piaget focused on the idea of play as learning. This may sound strange to some, but a child is always learning, no matter they are doing, due to the fact that so many experiences are totally new to them. When children stacks blocks they are exploring many scientific concepts such as balance, gravity, cause and effect and many others. When children scribble with crayons they are exploring many concepts of art and aesthetics. Gardner describes the idea of multiple intelligences. Everyone is good at some aspects of learning and less so in others. Children learn in many different ways.
I have a degree and a K-3rd teaching certificate with a reading endorsement in early childhood education from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. I also have ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a writing tutor and learning coordinator at the University of Michigan. I help to insure that student athletes receive a fair education while they are on scholarship. I tutor them on a weekly basis in most subjects but I focus primarily on writing and English. I am a very effective writing tutor both for grammar checking, composition, and essay writing. I have a BA in business management from Michigan State University, so I am very proficient in Econ, Math, computer skills and most business oriented courses. I also teach private guitar lessons at a music academy in Plymouth and I have studied, written, recorded, produced and performed music most of my life so that is another area I can be of great help.
I love teaching and working with people of any age that I can help both academically and otherwise. I love the one on one relationship that is developed through ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher, I expose students to a variety of artists and their techniques. My students are taught the fundamentals of art first, mastering one skill at a time. I am very interactive with my students. We discuss new skills, students have visual examples, and I also demonstrate every technique. I feel that once students have knowledge of the fundamentals, they need to feel free to experiment and adapt different styles to suit their personal taste. Every child can reach their full potential, given the right environment and tools.
As a graduate of Oakland University with degrees in both art and teaching, I have gained vast experience with a variety of students. My career began at Paint a Miracle, a Rochester art studio geared towards adults and children with special needs. I was in charge of tracking supply use, planning and executing lessons with my students, and assisted in sel ... read more

With a BA in Communications from Michigan State University and a MBA from the University of Phoenix, I have learned the value of education and understand the weight it holds in society. My experience with tutoring children is quite varied as I have gained skills from various opportunities. During my years at MSU, I worked in an after-school program called America Reads that used an interactive approach to tutoring. The program was primarily one-on-one tutoring to ensure adequate attention to each student. The program focused on getting students up to speed on their reading level but provided other opportunities to help with other subjects as well. The best part was the relationships that were built with the students.
My teaching style is not easily defined as each student learns differently. To be an effective teacher I must adapt to the learning style of each student and address ... read more
