My comments on tutoring Latin : For a six month period I worked in tandem with a highly proficient Latin instructor who had 14 students achieve Magna Cum Laude in Latin one year. As my language choice in high school, my studies in Latin have assisted in my achieving superior skills in English usage and expression and facilitated my learning French and Spanish. On my first visit to Italy, I found that I was able to comprehend a good part of Italian conversation.

For the greater part of my life I have been involved in various facets of education. I have acted as substitute teacher at the middle and high school levels for a total of 10 years, 8 of which were spent at 12 schools in Vermont and 2 at 10 schools in Hernando County FL. I held the position of Senior ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) with a highly reputed language school in Vienna, Austria for a period of 2 years and have offered ESOL instruction as a volunteer teacher at the Tarpon Springs campus of St. Petersburg College and with the Hernando County branches of H.E.A.R.T. and R.S.V.P. I have given prvate English language lessons to individuals from Nepal, Brazil and Puerto Rico. A Little Bit About Me...

I was the valedictorian of my graduating high school class and one of the top high school math and science students in the nation, but I was not always a stellar student. For instance, I received a “D” in math in the second grade. I attribute my transformation to an "A" student at least partially to my third grade teacher in whose class my math grades improved dramatically and I jumped from the lowest to the highest reading group. She helped boost my confidence, made me feel like I could actually do better, and made me excited about learning. My tutoring reflects my strong belief that achieving some or all of the latter can positively impact students' long-term learning.

I believe that each child's talents and abilities need to be nurtured through creative and constructive curriculum and delivery, including acknowledging the importance of integrating playtime with instruction. I have worked in many educational environments - public and private schools; juvenile detention facilities and home school cooperatives - each place offering it's own rules and protocol for developing and nurturing a child.
