I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your basic fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with basic fundamentals such as; note taking, study skills, and comprehension! All sciences demand the ability to link concepts together. While attaining my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, I took high level math classes as electives since math came so easy to me. Because of this I did not have to spend as much time on the math classes and was able to concntrate more on my business classes. I also was able to make some extra money as a tutor helping other students. I completed through Calculus II, and received a 4.0 in all math classes I took in college.
I believe that students learn math through repetention. Constantly doing problems until it becomes second nature and you don't think about anymore, it just happens. I believe the more problems you see solved, the easier it is to solve a new problem by basing the solving process on past experiences.
