Trained as a classroom teacher in California, I've worked as a classroom teacher, as a roving creative arts multi-school teacher, and as a tutor. I specialize in literature, world and American history, English, research and writing, and in creating an individualized program for study skills.
The Socratic method of asking questions is far superior to lecturing. Each student has a unique way of acquiring knowledge, and my job is to find that uniqueness and develop it to the fullest potential. Making a study plan and breaking information down into its smallest units is a good way to encourage mastery. I also look at a failure as a positive point and a way to encourage critical thinking. Success is often gained through studying prior errors. Education is a two way street and I learn just as much from the students as they learn from me.

I am very patient with students. I am not quick to tell them how to do a problem or what the answer is because the student will never learn how to do it on their own. I allow the student to work through the problem, offering my assistance along the way.
I started tutoring high school students; helping them with anything from test prep to organizational and study skills.
