I have extended experience teaching spanish to english-speaking kids in Costa Rica (Centro bilingue de educacion infantil Educarte- Saint Joseph) 2009-2012. Hello, My name is Hazel Sherin and I am currently a Freshman at The New School. As a high school student I decided instead of taking a foreign language to take sign language as an alternative. Prior to taking ASL 1, I was completely unaware of Deaf Culture and The Deaf community. In learning some of the history and attending Deaf events, I rapidly fell in love with the language. Unfortunately, I only reached ASL 3, as I only started taking it as a Sophomore. Since then I have taken one ASL 2 course in college just as a review because that is all that is offered at my school. I'm Mason, I was born as completely deaf but I got an cochlear implants when I was 4. I learned English first then sign language as my second language. I'm good at helping people to learn sign language but just let you know that I learned English Sign Language but right now I'm ;earning ASL in college, ASL is my minor.
