I have taught English at a private school in Ansan, South Korea for 1 year from March 2009 to February 2010. I taught children from ages 5-14. This was a full time job. I take close consideration of each child’s ability in the language and cater to his or her individual needs. I use all methods of second language acquisition in my teaching. Most of the exercises I use to help beginning are communicative methods. It's better to get them speaking and writing and build their confidence than to just use rote memorization or drills. If I think the audio-lingual method will help a more advanced student, I suggest and practice this method with them. A commercial banker by trade, I currently teach two (2) classes on financial literacy skills to legal immigrant refugees from India, Burma, and Cuba. This volunteer work is offered through the Catholic Charities arm of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. I started teaching these classes roughly six (6) months ago on a volunteer basis, and the classes have been very well received thus far.
