I tutored math in college for 3 years, mainly algebra and trigonometry. I received a BS in Mathematics with a secondary education certificate. I was a substitute math teacher for seventh and eighth grade pre-algebra classes for 10 weeks. Afterwards, I had various jobs in finance. During the last eight years I have tutored my children in math (kindergarten to seventh grade). I started teaching in 1970 as a K-8 substitute, continuing until being hired by a private school in 1975. I then taught full time in East LA. Upon moving to Wa. and being certified here, I taught in several schools in differing cultural settings untill recently starting my own business in Newport. A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have graduated, I still see myself as a student still learning. I take that with me when I teach fellow students. I try to make it an experience where we are all learning something together. This prevents me from just telling someone what to learn, instead it shows someone how to learn. During my years in high school I struggled. At one point my GPA fell below a 2.0. I learned how to bounce back by improving study habits and hard work and ended up graduating college with biology degree with a 4.0 GPA. Anyone can learn any skill that they are willing to work at. I personally prefer to learn by doing, so that is also how I teach. When a student works through examples, discussing how concepts apply, that application of the concept helps to solidify the knowledge.
