Special Education is one of my top subjects! I have worked with students of all ages and all types of disabilities, and have used different strategies to meet each student's personal needs.

My classroom experience with Special Education started while in college at Illinois State University, where I gained very valuable experience teaching in a variety of classrooms. For one semester, I taught in a junior high life-skills classroom where we practiced daily living skills and went out into the community so the students could practice skills such as locating items in a store, paying with money, and crossing the street. Then I spent my Fieldbase semester at two different schools. The first one was 4th and 5th grade students with learning disabilities. I have taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. I also have experience in 7th and 8th grade. My strengths are teaching math strategies such as facts, multi-step problems and algebra. I have a passion for reading and writing instruction. I am highly qualified to teach reading fluency, phonics/ word attack, comprehension and vocabulary. I think I can provide exceptional one on one tutoring for a student of any age. My knowledge has been spread out throughout my college years and this would be a great first step into teaching. A Little Bit About Me...

I have wanted to be a teacher all my life. I love working with children and teaching. I believe that children are the future and should be given the opportunity to do well and succeed in school. I like to do my best to teach students how to do something and then let them discover and practice how to do it for themselves on their own. I feel that providing good instruction and then being there to assist when needed is the best way for students to learn.
