Because all students learn differently, it is important for me as a teacher to get to know each student to find out what fits their needs the best. I like to offer a variety of activities that appeal to the hands-on learns, as well as kids that need visual cues. I am a patient, encouraging and energetic teacher. My experience includes teaching college English for three years. The courses I taught (Composition I and II) required me to know the mechanics of English (grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.) as well as various forms of writing (narrative, expository, compare/contrast, cause/effect, research-supported, etc.). I also have experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). For the past several months, I have worked as a substitute teacher for kindergarten through 12th grade. Substituting has given me the experience of teaching all ages and backgrounds in a variety of subjects. In 2007, I graduated with a Master of Science degree in Adult Education. I think I can provide exceptional one on one tutoring for a student of any age. My knowledge has been spread out throughout my college years and this would be a great first step into teaching. I am willing to do whatever a child needs in order for them to fully grasp a concept. I often think outside of the box and think I can provide some creativeness that other teachers cannot. I am currently a Special Education student at Northern Illinois University. I at the beginning of the education program and think this would an excellent chance to start teaching. Since graduating from Northern Illinois University, I have had several experiences teaching children at the elementary and middle school age. I was a nanny for a family of three for a year right after graduating. It was a wonderful experience and gave me the opportunity to create my own lessons and activities for the children. The following year I was a substitute teacher in Wisconsin for various grade levels and loved each experience. I am looking forward to beginning to substitute teach again this December in the DeKalb area. I have wanted to be a teacher all my life. I love working with children and teaching.
