From my experience, I have realized that students learn faster and retain the information they learned longer if a tactile, hands-on approach is used. Currently, I teach K-5 students, and no matter what I'm teaching, I try to turn it into an educational game where the students are up and moving and having fun while learning. Each one exceeded my expectations and learned far more than anyone could have imagined. I truly believe in finding the style of learning that suits each student, and pursuing that particular route. And I have found that you can include each learning style by using a tactile approach. It is extremely simple to add in visual and auditory components within hands-on activities. I have wanted to be a teacher all my life. I love working with children and teaching. I believe that children are the future and should be given the opportunity to do well and succeed in school. I like to do my best to teach students how to do something and then let them discover and practice how to do it for themselves on their own. I feel that providing good instruction and then being there to assist when needed is the best way for students to learn. I also understand that all students learn differently, so I would include the student in determining what strategies work best for him or her.
Since graduating from Northern Illinois University, I have had several experiences teaching children at the elementary and middle school age.
