I've completed high school and been accepted into college, so I obviously have what's needed for the lower levels of education, such as elementary students, and I maintained a GPA of 3.5 throughout my high school career, so there is a good change I'll at least be able to get the resources needed for your student to excel in the subject of study they struggle in. I'm very good with younger children, I've worked with them extensively for several years.
I prefer to try to be more hands-on in my approach to teaching, especially with younger children. I do know that their attention span isn't as long as that of older people, so I try to keep them engaged through short and interactive sessions.

Don't tell me 2+2=4. Tell me WHY 2+2=4.

Although I wish I could count the endless amount of time I spent playing teacher as a child, I know parents are looking for more expierence than an eight year old and her dolls. I have tutored children, ages ranging from eight to fourteen, off and on for three years. My comments on tutoring Grammar : I just finished my first year at CWI and am currently taking English 102 - took predominately English, editing, computer, marketing, and math classes. I also home schooled my children for ten years, was a teacher's assistant for six years in elementary schools, and taught first grade in a small private school last year.

A Little Bit About Me...

Over the past year I have tutored through The College of Idaho's Chemistry Club. Chemistry, especially the math portions, never came easily to me. I had to work hard and spend hours asking professors questions, but now I am much better at chemistry because of it. As a tutor I wanted to help fellow students who were struggling as I had.
Just telling a child how to do a problem is not effective. I believe a teacher needs to explain the logic and reasoning behind solving certain problems certain ways. Most of my tutoring experience has been working with 9-12th graders, which I have found to enjoy because the relationship between student and tutor is closer to a peer-peer relationship. I love to teach. In order to be an effective teacher, I believe you have to be willing to adapt and change very quickly. This may also mean you have to spend extra time with students who are struggling or be proactive when you notice there is a problem instead of waiting for them to come to you. I also believe that if a student cannot remember what they have recently learned, then there is little importance to what was taught.
