Having taught a reading program, GED, and SAT prep (verbal) for many years, I feel very confident with reading comprehension. I also have learned (and taught!) that reading rate determines proficiency of comprehension. I would like to pass this knowledge on to others. I have taught over 20 years in private & public schools in Hawaii & one summer in Michigan. My experience ranges from elementary to college level. I like to make my tutoring sessions productive by encouraging students to work hard to complete the taste in order to receive a reward in the form of a game or something they enjoy doing. I am very thorough in correcting assignments and make sure they fully understand the concept they are working on. I am very helpful in stimulating critical thinking for creative writing assignments. I am an informal teacher because I do not yet have the experience teaching in a formal setting accept for writing lesson plans for language arts.
