My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : I hold a Master's degree in special education and am experienced as a K-5 special education teacher in all areas of reading. I am certified by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators as an Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator. Orton-Gillingham is a multisensory literacy approach that includes explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, reading, spelling, and writing. I was also the reading teacher of the year for my school during the 2017-2018 school year.

I usually like to meet with a person and understand their basic needs, before I decide which was to approach their tutoring - not every person learns the same way, so I approach each situation differently.
While attending Mary Baldwin College, I not only majored in English, but also worked as a tutor in the school writing center. As a tutor, I worked with students (freshmen-seniors) on basic editorial skills, correct punctuation, and the overall writing process (brainstorming, rough drafts, final copies, etc).
