A Little Bit About Me...

What strikes me most as I look back at my education is how much of an impact a teacher can have when they make their subject relevant to their students. When I am teaching I try to find out what motivates each student as a person, in addition to what is motivating them to take the class. My goal is to find a way to present the material in such a way that the experience of learning is a journey of meaningful discovery that corresponds to the course content.
While completing my BS in engineering, I spent two years tutoring math, physics, and optics. During my senior year I was also able to teach a portion of two terms of the freshman optics class. During the last four years I have worked as an aerospace engineer, and as a private contractor. I place a high value on practical education. I graduated high school at the top of my class and received my AA degree just a few of months later- all while working full-time. I then obtained my BA in Organizational Management and I am now in a local graduate degree program. Because of my heavy workload I was able to develop effective and efficient study methods. I have been tutoring, mentoring and coaching children, teens and adults for the past nine years with great success to them academically, socially and emotionally. I have been interested in education my entire life. After receiving my B.A. from Penn State University, I was an elementary teacher in my hometown, Oxford, Pennsylvania. This experience ignited a spark in me to continue my education. I received an M.A. and Ed.D in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. More recently, I was a student at Western Washington University in their elementary teacher certification program.
