Patient tutor wants to help you with your learning goals!

I have two children at home that I am always teaching. During high school, I often tutored anyone who needed it, particularly in the Anatomy and Physiology classes. I have taken 4 years total of A & P between high school and college, and have passed each course with an "A". English has been a very strong subject for me. I took Advance Placement classes for college credit in HS, and received the highest score on my exam in the school.I thoroughly enjoy tutoring children.
Very patient. I have felt firsthand the difference that a patient tutor can make in the journey of learning a difiicult subject.

Experienced Tutor

As an engineer and I have taught planners and engineers how to use software to do calculations. I have taught GRE preparation for Kaplan (analytical and verbal reasoning) both to small classes of 3 to 7 students and individual tutoring. In 2009, I was accepted into the Educators of Change program by the Duval County School Board. I am now a certified teacher in Mathematics and Physics (grades 9-12). I have a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a master’s in Public Administration. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills through writing articles for publication and many professional reports.
I enjoy teaching and working with children. While I believe that all children can learn, they do so in their own ways and at their own pace. It is the tutor’s responsibility to ensure that the student(s) understand the material. It is important to show students how one id ... read more

My comments on tutoring SAT - Verbal : When in high school I had the highest Duval exam scores on the Regents exam. Also I was a Merit Scholar. Also I won the top statewide scholarship award (mainly based on standardized tests) of the Chamber of Commerce and the N.H.S.

I have helped friends (and their children) to prepare for exams since when in high school I won various awards for my performance on exams. I won the top score for the Regents exam for Duval County in 1971 and for this I was recognized by the downtown Rotary Club. Also I won the top statewide scholarship award for the Chamber of Commerce and for the N.H.S. due to performance on exams. Also I won the Merit Scholarship award. I have only recently started to do tutoring for pay. Over the years I have helped my children, my grandchildren, and friends and others to prepare for exams ranging from kindergarten phonics up to and beyond SAT exams.
I consider it my duty to do what it takes to make the tutoring FUN for the person being tutored.

All students have the ability to learn, but they do not learn the same way. It is the job of the teacher or tutor to evaluate each child's learning style and adapt the lessons or activities to the student's individual needs, so that they can be successful. Over the years, I have learned many ways to adapt lessons and meet these necessary needs. I am patient, creative, and determined to enable students to learn. I have learned to modify my techniques if they do not meet the needs of the student. I have a positive attitude and expect success when I work with my students. It is such a wonderful experience to assist a student in achieving success!

I can read and write upside down very fluently and I believe this helps the students understanding. I have been voted teacher of the month continuously and students request me by name frequently. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in earning the trust of my students before I'm able to teach them. I earn their trust by trying to understand who they are and what interests them. After learning as much as I can about my students, I tell them a little about myself: what I like to do, where I grew up, and some of my accomplishments. As time passes, I use my life and teaching experience to help my students understand concepts, principals, and procedures. Example: I like to encourage my students to make illustrations, diagrams, and charts to help them understand fractions, human anatomy, or English compostion. In conclusion, I strive to motivate my students by giving them positive reinforcement and praise.

I love teaching and working with children. I am patient and easy going. I believe that all children can learn. I just have to find their learning style and what motivates them. I believe in using a mixed teaching method. I try to gear my teaching to how the child learns. I also believe in testing to see where the child is at so that I know where I can drive instruction. I will do my best to reach and make a difference in the life of a child. If you like what you've read please call me.

My style is very interaction-intensive. I don't like to stand in front of a classroom and lecture. I constantly engage students, frequently asking them questions and asking them to complete my sentences. I find if you actually get a student ACTIVELY involved in the learning process, he or she will have an easier time understanding and remembering concepts. Patience and understanding go hand-in-hand with such a technique, and as the eldest of five children, I feel I have those traits in abundance.

My teaching style is very different, but I love being able to differentiate my lessons to best suit my students. I do believe that all children have different learning styles, so when I deliver instruction, I try to combine the types of styles and incorporate kinesthetic activities for the students to visually see and have that hands on experience. I believe repetition helps children to learn and grasp instruction as well. Through repetition and correct delivery, the student will be able to remember and recall the facts they need in order to succeed in those areas of academics. Teaching is always a learning process. You learn new ways and ideas everyday.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught each grade level of high school. I judge my success in teaching by the improvement I see in the writings of my students, in their evolving aspirations and in their character. While I teach English, I know that the most important subject I teach is more difficult to stick a label on. It is a subject which includes elements of confidence, self esteem, and self discovery. Students from all areas of the school come to me with essays they have written for other classes and they ask what they can do to improve them. It is all that I have ever asked of my students – to take responsibility for their own progress. If my students want to learn I can help them learn.

I believe that children need encouragement and positive reinforcement to learn. Having confidence in the child helps them to have confidence in themselves which is essential in getting them to understand that they can do the task at hand. Often providing the child with certain positive rewards when they have done well is another way that I believe helps children want to learn. I try my best to get students to make the best grades possible and that they are proud of doing so.
After recieving my AA, I plan to continue my education at the University of North Florida this coming semester.
