I work well with children and adults alike. I enjoy the challenge of finding the perfect explanation for each individual that I works with their personal thought processes (as everyone thinks about things a little differently - that is the challenge of teaching). I believe that helping a person discover solutions through their own mental path is the best way to help them discover a long-lasting understanding of a subject. In college I was a nanny to three middle school students for two years. While being their nanny I was also their tutor in all subjects but focused on math. I graduated from SJSU with a major in History and a minor in Mathematics. I substitute taught in January and February 2007 then was a long-term substitute from March until the end of May in a sixth grade math, science, and history combination class. For the past two years I have taught eighth grade Algebra. While teaching I have also tutored a sixth grade student in math.
I believe there are multiple learning styles. One of my goals as a teacher is to find each students' learning style and teach to fit their needs. I believe that practice makes perfect but also that learning needs to be fun. I set the bar high for my students and do my best to help motivate them to reach a high standard.
