My experiences as the oldest of seven children instilled in me the desire to educate others, so I obtained my BS degree in Biology and Secondary Education. I taught 7th and 8th grade sciences for five years before staying home to be a full time mother and substitute teaching on the high school level for 3 more years. I operated a small daycare during my children's growing years before returning to work fulltime in the business world. I started tutoring at a learning center where I tutored children ages 5-17. I tutored every subject including the FCAT test. I decided to offer private tutoring on my own and travel to the students' houses. I found that the students felt more comfortable and it also gave me chance to discuss the progress of the child with parents to a better extent. I then became involved with a program dealing with foster care children who were court ordered to receive tutoring. Many of the cases were challenging and required much more patience and compassion than I had needed in the past, but it is always rewarding to see a child learn and grow.
