I have been teaching 8th grade math(pre-Algebra,Algebra,Geometry) for 10 years. I have been very successful in improving students scores. Last year my pre-algebra students made a growth of 6.55 according to Evaas score data. I worked at Elohim Center tutoring the kids at an after school homework center in Hartsville, SC. I also worked at Hartsville School of Performing Arts for a short time period. However I provided assistance to the teachers and mentored the children that had potential, but didn't have the extra push in life to motivate them to be more. My teaching style is like a coach. I show the student the method to solve the problem and then I observe, correct and praise the student while he/she solves similar problems. It is important to explain the underlining principle in the problem so the student will be able to solve similar problems without just memorizing a few rules.
