A Little Bit About Me...

For the past 18 years, I have held various instructor positions in both the Active and Reserve components of the Army, providing instruction in such areas as Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Surgical Technique, Emergency Medicine, Combat Lifesaver and Sterile Processing. My extensive work in medicine as a surgical first assistant and instructor gave me a unique insight into the inner workings of the human body, in both the civilian as well as the military sectors. It has given me wonderful opportunities to work with all different types of students in a broad spectrum of areas such as science, communication and public speaking, leadership roles, English, beginner Spanish (high school and college level), and writing (APA and other styles.)

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience teaching began at California State University, Northridge during my time as an undergraduate. During that period I worked as an outreach tutor through the university's Education Equity Program tutoring struggling students at the middle school level in reading and rudimentary mathematics. The reading program we used was Success For All. As a teacher I've taught language arts to middle school students and am deemed highly qualified as a multiple subject teacher and English teacher. I've passed the RICA, Multiple-Subject CSET, English Single Subject CSET, CBEST and hold a Multiple-Subject Clear Teaching Credential with supplemental authorizations in English and Social Studies.

As an undergrad, I excelled in the arts, history and social science courses. However, I lacked interest in math (I didn't get it) and failed college algebra two times! My goal was to graduate college and I decided to seek help. I came across the tutoring center on campus and found a tutor that changed my perception about math! I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Physical Science from California State University, Fresno. I received my first teaching experience as a substitute teacher. I next worked as a long-term substitute teacher for a year. I was then offered a full-time, permanent teaching position as a fourth grade elementary school teacher. This position lasted three years. I will never forget the joy I received each time one of my students learned something that they had been struggling with for some time. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a BA in Anthropology which means that I have experience working with diverse groups of people and have a certain understanding and appreciation of the differences among individuals. I have many years of experience tutoring adults and K-12 students. Some of my students have included those with mental disorders and physical handicaps. I have been a volunteer literacy tutor with the Kern Adult Literacy Council for 4 years, many of my students being parolees enrolled in education programs.
