I am very hands on teaching style. I make sure I cater to each of my students individually. I offer my students the encouragement and respect they deserve and treat them with kindness. I adjust for visual, hearing, and hands-on learners. I put a lot of pride in my work and I am not satisfied until the student has a firm grip of the subject matter.

Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.
Web manager and usability analyst as well as instructor. I have been asked at various jobs to teach training classes to my peers because of my ability to deliver an easy to understand lesson. I've been told I am very good at explaining a topic that someone has no experience with at all. I am on contract with NC States Computer Training Unit.

I have informally tutored people of various age ranges in the subjects, physics and math , for a period that ranges over about three years . I have taught younger relatives as well as helped people informally on online tutoring message boards with math and physics problems. I have also been paid to assist students in how to operate the basic commands of computational mathematical software for three years as well.
I would be glad to work with students of all ages, but I prefer to work with a student individually rather than work with students in a group. From both my experience of being an informal tutor and being tutored, I find that students general prefer this style of tutoring because the tutor can both focus and better access their student's strengths and weaknesses in the particular academic subject they are having difficulty with.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been working as a Substitute teacher for the last six years in Georgia as well as in the State of Washington. As my resume will indicate, I have experience at tutoring in the four major core subjects (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies). I recently moved back home to the Wilson area after more than 30 years. I attended Elvie Street Elementary, 1963-67, Coon Junior High 1968, Darden High School 1970-71, Fike High School 1972-73 and graduated from Elm City High School in 1973. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching and working with HS and college students. For me every student is a different young person, which should be treated individually, according to his abilities and style of learning. A teacher needs to be patient and a good observer to identify the talents and skills of a student and then use them to provide the best teaching service for this particular student. Building self-confidence and interest in the subject of study in my students are two important parts of my style of teaching.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher I believe that time shouldn’t just be spent dealing with specific formulas or computations but on understanding the big picture. Spending a little time thinking about the background of a problem can help a student apply what they learn to new situations as they arise. It also gives students a chance to determine if the answer they obtained makes sense in the context of the problem. As a student, I also found it very useful when a teacher talked through their approach to a problem. I think a lot can be learned by watching an expert solve a problem step by step. With that said, I know that every student learns in different ways and I do my best to find the most productive approach for each individual.

More About This Tutor...

I have been providing tutorial services for more than 10 years. My first tutorial assignment was at Edgecombe Community College in 1993. I worked one-on-one with students that were having difficulty in College Mathematics, Computer Technology, and Chemistry. Within the same year I also worked at Nash Community College tutoring students in Electronics Technology and Mathematics. In 1999, I taught middle school math. Based on my college transcripts, which displayed my engineering math courses, I was immediately promoted to teaching high school mathematics. Most of the students I taught where underachievers, repeaters, or transfers from AP courses. The school’s guidance counselor recognized my ability to inspire and motivate these students to become successful. After which, I was given the opportunity to work in developmental mathematics. In conjunction with my high school teaching ... read more

Coming from the influence of a family of educators, I realized early on my affinity towards teaching. In addition to my college degrees, I have been very involved in the 'summer camp' experience. Over six summers, I worked with two summer camps to teach various physical and academic curricula to grade groups K-5, 6-8, 9-12. In graduate school, I was given the opportunity to spearhead a class of undergraduates, splitting lecture time with the professor. I am currently writing my thesis (under review of faculty) to be published on the "Architectural History of NC State University and the Areas Surrounding" it. During my time in university, I have tutored students in chemistry, astronomy, English, grammar, Spanish, math, history and several other general education elements.

I see the role of the educator as a pivotal element in not only academic success, but social and cultural success as well. Therefore my teaching skills often incorporate pockets of knowledge from various disciplines. I also believe that the role of the teacher can also mirror the role of the student, as both teacher and student can learn from each other. I believe that children should be given the necessary tools that foster intellectual curiosity, so as to sharpen creativity and independent thinking. My approach to teaching is not to just impart information, but to impart information in such a way that will lend for students to engage in questioning and realization of answers. Because after all, learning is discovery!

A Little Bit About Me...

There are currently huge gaps in the education of our children, which if left unaddressed, cause struggle and difficulties for them down the road, and ultimately in life. I am passionate about filling in those gaps and doing my part to ensure every child or adult is given the educational help they are entitled to. I feel it is important to be attentive to the individual learning style of each student and I enjoy the challenge of finding different ways to take complex ideas and deconstruct them into simple and useful components. I believe in shaping information to connect ideas in a more fluid and organic way. I have a very lively, animated personality so I like to make learning a fun experience.

My teaching style is very much hands on. I try to re-enforce what is being taught, to ensure that the student understands. Also, I like for the student to see the big picture, that each lesson is a stepping stone and that learning never ends.
I am a graduate of North Carolina State University. I believe that my Computer Science degree, has prepared me to tutor students. At North Carolina State University, we took a variety of classes that made us well rounded. During the past 2 years, I have completed training to become a Substitute Teacher, and I had an opportunity to work for a few schools. I accepted most the assignments. They seemed to be pleased with my work ethic and my commitment to education.

I enjoy teaching and working with children and adults. My first experience in education was with children's music classes, and have since enjoyed the opportunity to teach adults at the community college level. I would describe my style as adaptive. In my experience every child and adult requires somewhat of a different approach. After careful evaluation, a course is developed to meet the students needs. With that said, no matter what approach is taken, above all else I know that practice and a solid understanding of the subject's terms is the first key to successful learning.
