My style of teaching/tutoring involves one on one and small group sessions. I feel we work from using the student’s strengths to build math vocabulary, math concepts, math relationships, developing math knowledge and algorithmic skills. I want the students to feel comfortable communicating using math to get help. I strongly believe that to understand math you have to put forth effort to try and do math. I want the learning environment to be relaxed and comfortable. Depending on what type of math and the concepts that need help different tutoring techniques will be used such as: building relationship, hands-on activities, and interactive virtual manipulatives. I have been able to develop a great teacher-student relationship of mutual respect and trust. I like to get to know the students learning style so I can adjust my teaching strategy to better fit them. I think it is important to create a situation where the student can feel successful, which will improve their confidence in learning. I earned my Degree at BYU-Idaho where I majored in Math and minored in Health. While in college I taught some lower level math classes. I went on to work at a year round school working with troubled teens. I was able to learn many different teaching strategies to work with different personalities.
