I have been tutoring since I was in high school. Between that and teaching Sunday School and Children's Church, I have more than ten years of experience. I have tutored children whose ages range from elementary school to high school. I have also tutored adults to help with college classes and help prepare for GED tests. My area of expertise is Chemistry, however, I have tutored students in all areas of science and math. I also have a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biotechnology. I also have a PhD in Chemistry with a specialization in Biochemistry. As a teaching assistant in graduate school, I taught General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry Lab. My tutoring experiences have been all throughout my life helping friends and family better understand mathematics. I've tutored for pay just once, one night a week for one year. This was while I was a student at Hampden-Sydney College; I worked through the College tutoring Calculus. Recently (in the past month), I've been helping a niece who is in the fourth grade and a friend who is a freshman in high school.
I'm passionate about what I do because I've been through classes in subject matter that I struggled in or was disinterested in and I want to be able to help others feel more comfortable in math where they might be weak or unsure. I also realize that sometimes the issue is motivational not a matter of comprehension. I know firsthand that great teachers make great students. It took several years to discover my learning style because I had to find it on my own.
